PBRC embraces several distinct objectives:
» To serve the scholarly community on the national and international level by conducting and diffusing work from an extensive research program, touching on themes of regional and global significance;
» To advance the goal of inclusive development for human dignity, the Center’s maxim;
» To reaffirm some of the fundamental values that are espoused by its parent institution, Soka University of America, especially in terms of providing research aimed at creating widely shared societal value;
» To support the SUA campus community by sponsoring special lectures, seminars, conferences, and research and travel grants both to faculty and students for the purpose of encouraging a greater understanding and appreciation of the issues and problems facing the Pacific Basin region; and
» To be a resource for the study of Asia and the Pacific to both on-campus and off-campus constituents and interested persons.
