The Pacific Basin Research Center (PBRC) is seeking applications for its biannual essay contest. At the end of each semester, the PBRC seeks to recognize the best research and writing among Soka’s students as it pertains to the countries and peoples of the Pacific Basin, widely defined. PBRC staff and faculty will select three winning essays, whose abstracts will be featured in the PBRC’s newsletter, PBRC Update. The top prize consists of a $200 Amazon gift card, with two $50 runner-up prizes. Essays from all disciplines and fields are accepted, and may be recent class papers or other projects. Submissions will be judged based on the quality of writing, originality, relevance to the center’s core mission, and evidence of critical thinking. This contest is intended as a forum for emerging voices; only undergraduate student work will be considered.
